Frequently Asked Questions

Who is QCA?

QCA stands for Qualification and Curriculum Authority and is based in the UK.

What is QCA?

It is a government sponsored body. It oversees the national curriculum of the UK and is the only official body of the UK with the power to accredit qualifications.

Why does Anglia need QCA accreditation?

QCA only, and no other body, has the official right and remit to accredit or recognise or otherwise, endorse examinations. It is seen as a 'kite mark' of quality, rigour and standards and as a result enables our qualifications to be recognised by universities and employers adding value to the qualifications for the candidates. It also enhances the growth of Anglia around the world allowing Anglia to join all other major examination boards.

Who is Ascentis?

Ascentis is an independent National Awarding body. It is both a QAA and QCA recognised awarding body that gives Anglia qualifications access to Higher Education. It is based in Lancaster and has regional/national/international customer base with 120+ qualifications on NQF/QCF.

Why is Anglia collaborating with Ascentis?

Anglia is not a UK awarding body examining UK students only. It specialises solely in overseas students and has no plans to change, however our collaboration with Ascentis allows our qualifications for overseas candidates to be recognised within the QCA system.

Will there be changes in the Anglia examinations?

None at any level.

What are the benefits for candidates and teachers?

There will be no changes to the teaching syllabus or to the format and content of the examinations at any level.

The Anglia examinations now have official alignment of levels, [See CEFR] and the standards within all examination areas are reinforced by inspection. This will we believe lead to an expansion of Anglia and wider recognition for our qualifications that includes external endorsements for employers and educational institutes.
